Real Talk Apporval Process:
- Have a full draft of the Real Talk prepared (this means that the talk is ready to present--from the presenter’s perspective (this does not mean it won’t need edits))
- Send that draft to Ms. Maiorano or Ms. Chu (the faculty leaders) for the Real Talk to be approved as soon as possible
- Approval from Ms. M/Ms. Chu can involve a meeting; however, that is not always necessary
- The approval process will almost always take other steps, such as:
- The counselors’ approval, especially for topics like abuse (physical, sexual, and/or emotional), sexual assault or rape, neglect, suicidal thinking or actions, mental health issues, family history, body image, or other topics that might be triggering to audience members
- Profe Bensadon’s approval for topics surrounding diversity and equity
- IF, and only if, the topic is surrounding a passion, perspective, or reflection that seems very unlikely to be a trigger for anyone (example: a past Real Talk about service work and interest in women’s health) there is no need for a second round of approval.
- AFTER THE TALK IS GIVEN: Speaker Debrief
- Following the talk, the speaker must meet with a trusted adult (for as long as necessary) to debrief their experience. Confirm that this meeting has happened with a member of the committee within the 2 weeks following the talk.
